A Grand Canyon river rafting trip through the western section of the Canyon is a great introductory trip, offering mild whitewater, the feeling of being a mile deep in the earth, and the experience of sleeping beneath the stars.
For nearly four decades, I have had the privilege of guiding and leading river expeditions in different corners of the world. However, my true love is running the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. It never gets old; riding the emerald waters of the river, feeling the boat sway underneath my feet, the smell of water
“Ok folks, you’re going to want to hold on tight. This one is a big one. It’s called House Rock and today it’s looking like a 6,” our guide, Shavonne, bellowed from the rear of the boat.
Christie and I immediately glanced at each other in excitement as our eyes communicated that we migrate to sit in the front of the boat. The ‘bath tub’ is the wettest and, arguably, the best seat in the house. It was a very hot and long first day full of built up anticipation. Up until this point, it still had not hit me that we were in the grandest of all canyons.
I’m not a serious outdoorsman.
I’ve never been a river guide or worked in a national park. Heck, I used to fake a stomach ache to get out of going outside for recess. When I travel, I like to visit cities with nice restaurants, hotels, and running water, above all.
Don’t get me wrong. A love for adventure sits close to my heart and there is nothing I like better than going somewhere new.
Think Rafting the Zambezi is Too Hardcore? Think Again.
This week we sat down with Hamish McMaster of Water by Nature who shared with us what makes the Zambezi River in Zambia, Africa his “favorite river in the world”.
Fran & Dan Take on the Grand Canyon 1-Day Rafting Adventure!
This summer we sent our Adventure Booking Specialists, Daniel and Francesca, out on a Grand Canyon 1-Day Rafting Adventure. Neither one had ever been on the Colorado River, so they left R&O with a blank canvas of expectations and a spirit full of excitement for the journey ahead.
