Discovery Classic Yacht

Adventures aboard the yacht Discovery begin and end in different locations depending on the itinerary and launch date you select. Itineraries can originate from Washington (Seattle) and Alaska (Juneau, Ketchikan, or Sitka). During the Juneau – Sitka trip, you will anchor in several bays near Admiralty and Baranof Islands with plenty of stops for whale and wildlife viewing. If you are interested in exploring Admiralty Island, our Juneau roundtrip allows you to visit one of the world’s most pristine and beautiful wilderness areas. On the Ketchikan – Juneau voyage, you will spend your days whale and bear watching in Tracy Arm and Fords Terror Wilderness areas. If you choose Seattle – Ketchikan, you will follow the route of early explorers via the British Columbia Inside Passage on your journey to the last frontier.

Space Is Limited

There are only six cabins on-board, so the sooner you begin your preparation, the more possibilities there are for customizing your trip or finding space on-board a specific itinerary.

Adventure Specialists

We’ve been connecting our clients to water adventures around the world since 1987. We partner with select outfitters who share our values and are pros at creating exceptional experiences. There is no fee for our service; we earn our commission from the outfitters we represent, and the cost of your expedition is the same as booking direct.

The trip flexibility means that your adventure on-board Discovery can start in either Washington (Seattle) or Alaska (Juneau, Ketchikan, or Sitka) depending on your travel dates. On all trips, you will meet in the lobby of your hotel the day that your trip launches where your guide will be waiting to shuttle you to the vessel to begin your adventure.

Depending on which trip you choose, your adventure will end with a short cruise on your final day to your ending city to disembark.

Price Includes

All deluxe accommodations on-board including family style gourmet meals, non-alcoholic beverages, and wine with dinner. Guests are welcome to use any of the two Boston Whalers and/ or four stable kayaks carried on the vessel for fishing and shore excursions. Saltwater fishing equipment and tackle will also be provided.

You will find Alaska’s summer temperatures surprisingly pleasant. Daytime highs for June – August range from 60°F – 80°F. Nighttime lows are refreshingly cool, dipping into the 40’s – 50’s. May and September are usually 5° – 10° cooler. During this time of year, expect a few days of cloudy weather and rain, but also some clear days. Look forward to long daylight hours and enjoy the beautiful light change on the landscape.

The Inside Passages

This waterway hugs the coastline and provides an exciting way to watch the landscape change from coastal mountain ranges, temperate rainforests, and glaciers. It also allows you to view the other travelers of the inlets and coves – humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, seals, and other marine life.

Group Size

Expeditions on the yacht Discovery will accommodate up to 10 guests and 4 crew members. There are six guest cabins on-board, and one cabin reserved for crew members and one captain’s cabin.

The Boat

Meet the classic yacht Discovery and be transported back in time with this elegant and comfortable vessel. Built in 1931, a time when craftsmanship was designed to last, the yacht has six guest cabins with two shared heads (toilets) and showers. Enjoy the unobstructed classic teak decks and deckhouse for increased opportunities to view wildlife. On the main deck, appreciate the beautiful Mahogany dining salon, main salon, new forward salon, galley, and an enclosed fantail lounge.

This trip will exceed your expectations with meals that are carefully and thoughtfully prepared. Breakfasts of fresh fruit and specialty pancakes is followed by a lunch of seafood & saffron chowder or halibut in a creamy corn broth, served with homemade lemon pepper crackers. Afternoon brings hors d’oeuvres, such as smoked salmon pate & caper relish, served with a baguette. And finally for dinner, an anti-pesto salad with grilled top round steak and paprika roasted potato and grilled asparagus with Cabernet demi-glace. Remember to save room for dessert – a blood orange mousse. In addition to the fresh food, our outfitter is able to accommodate most special dietary requirements.
