More than a vacation, this trip allows you to experience the Belizean ecology, wildlife, Mayan culture of the mainland, and marine environments on Glover’s Reef. Learn something new like snorkeling, sea kayaking, paddle boarding or kayak sailing. Choose to spend an afternoon relaxing on a hammock overlooking turquoise water or an exciting day playing in the ocean. Expedition Overview
Your adventure starts at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport where our partner outfitter meets you for a scenic 20 minute to the town of Dangriga. From there you travel by road to the 7000 acre Bocawina National Park. Within the park explore the rainforest’s waterfalls and wildlife while staying at the Bocawina Rainforest Lodge, the only lodge within the park.
Next, spend 5 days at an island basecamp in the Glover’s Reef Marine Reserve. Choose to spend your time relaxing on a hammock overlooking turquoise water or exploring the area with knowledgeable Belizean guides by sea kayak, paddle board, snorkel or other water activities. On your final day, a water taxi takes you back to the mainland and the Dangriga Municipal Airport for your trip home.
Lodging
The first two nights of your trip, you will stay at the Bocawina Rainforest Lodge in the heart of the rainforest. While for the rest of your trip, you will stay at a basecamp amidst the natural environment. At basecamp, your accommodations will be wall-tent cabanas with raised wooden floors, beds with all linens provided with ample headroom to walk around inside the tent. Basecamp also provides freshwater showers, modern composting toilets, and solar powered refrigeration to create a well-appointed field camp.

Bocawina National Park & Glover's Reef
Day 1: Arrival
After arriving at the International Airport, take a scenic 20 minute flight to Dangriga. From there travel by road to Bocawina Rainforest Lodge, the only lodge in the national Park. Arrive in time to get accommodated prior to dinner.
Days 2-3: Bocawina Rainforest Lodge
Tucked within the rainforest below the Maya Mountains, the Bocawina Lodge provides access to a myriad of adventures. Within the stunning 7000 acre national park lies jaguars, ocelots, howler monkeys, and over 150 species of birds. You’ll hike to the top of Antelope Falls for memorable views of untrammeled rainforest stretching to the Caribbean Sea, zipline through the jungle canopy, rappel a waterfall, visit a Spice Farm, or explore trails with the resident naturalists. After a day of adventure, happy hour at the lodge will be followed with a delicious dinner at the acclaimed Wild Fig Restaurant.
Days 4-7: Glover’s Reef Basecamp
Leave the rainforest for the turquoise waters of the Caribbean with a motorboat charter that takes everyone 36 miles offshore to the Glovers Reef Atoll.
Once everyone is settled into their tent cabanas and had lunch afternoon activities being. Guides provide professional instruction in sea kayaking, snorkeling, and safety for tropical seas. Select from a variety of activities each day to enjoy the turquoise clear waters of the coral reefs. Delicious creole and internationally influenced meals are served buffet style in the open air dining area.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast a boat charter departs mid morning to take you back to the mainland. The trip finishes in Dangriga, where a support staff coordinates your land or air connections.

Open Ocean
Be prepared to travel over open ocean for your trip to Glover’s Reef. You will travel in a small craft, so if you have never traveled on the open ocean speak to your doctor about ways to minimize any potential sea sickness.

Meals
All meals are included and will be an assortment of fresh seafood, grilled meats, tropical fruit, fresh vegetables, and Belizean cuisine. Most diets can be accommodated for during your trip and the outfitter works closely with any other lodges providing meals to assist in menu planning.
Weather
November through April brings cool breezy days with lots of sunshine and temperatures between 71-85º F. This time of year is also considered the dry season, so little rain is expected.
The Caribbean Ocean
Enjoy warm ocean temperatures around 75º F and mostly calm blue-green water. The protected waters of the reef are relatively shallow and have excellent water clarity and visibility to view the diverse marine life that you will encounter on the trip. Since this adventure takes place on an atoll farther from the mainland, the trip may be affected by weather conditions; however, your guides know how to make the best of any weather!
Group Size
The group size is kept intimate with 6-22 participants and 2-6 local guides. This ensures that you will have the ideal size group for instruction and exploration.
